What guipure is
A dense lace worked without a tulle ground: the motifs are joined to one another directly, so the fabric stands on its own and keeps a clean cut edge. That is what separates guipure from Chantilly, where the pattern sits on a fine net and the edge has to be finished.
Specification
- Structure — dense lace weave, no tulle base.
- Width — 130–150 cm.
- Types — plain guipure, and guipure embroidered with beads or sequins.
- Care — gentle wash at 30 °C, or dry cleaning.
Where it is used
Bridal and evening gowns, corsets and tops, decorative inserts. Because a cut edge does not unravel into netting, guipure is the usual choice when a single motif has to be cut out and applied on its own.
