Corset Boning (Rigilene)
What it is
A flexible polyester tape with plastic rods running inside a woven casing. It is what gives a bodice its structure: sewn into the seams, it holds the shape of a corset without the weight or the fitting problems of steel.
How it behaves in the workshop
- Cuts with ordinary scissors — no special tooling, no tipping required.
- Sews by machine or by hand — straight through the casing.
- Washes and dry-cleans without losing its stiffness.
- High-density type — individual rods can be pulled out to shape a flat bend where the seam curves.

The same tape is used to give shape to hats, bags and petticoats — anywhere a soft material has to stand up on its own.
